To follow the Madison State Road, you will need to turn west from US-31 onto County Road 400 South and then immediately south onto County Road 550 East, behind the large rocking chair. The road originally headed due south out of Amity, leaving the path of the railroad. This segment of road features a bridge over Sugar Creek at which point the road angles back to the southeast where it shortly joins back to US-31 and returns due south again.
