Goin’ to the Chapel, and We’re Gonna See a Pie Pan

Elk Rapids, MI to Charlevoix, MI

Jun 23, 2008

While traveling northbound on US-31, we realized that we were half-way between the Equator and the North Pole.

Chris had read of a small Wayside Chapel, but the directions were somewhat unclear. We found ourselves in a small neighborhood, watched with suspicious eyes by a man measuring some wood. The Wayside Chapel was actually about five miles further on down the road ((45.189445,-85.344582)). It seemed bigger than the World’s Smallest Post Office, but it was still charmingly diminutive.

The next attraction wasn’t at all diminutive, even in comparison to the current World’s Largest Cherry Pie Pan. This pie pan was the former world champion, reigning from 1976-1987. Katherine was glad to note down the recipe for the pie that had been baked in the pan, just in case the church potluck crowd ever gets totally out of hand.
