Overall, the sandwich was satisfactory. The corned beef didn't seem to be cooked as well as I like--it tasted like they just ran over to the grocery and picked up some prepackaged lunchmeat--and perhaps that would explain the record long delivery time of thirty-six minutes. Of course one of the high points of eating a Reuben at Union Jack is that it includes a side salad, which they fortunately bring out to you halfway through your wait. The salad was really tasty and kept the value rating for the meal high. I thought the sandwich was a little dry and the bread was overly crunchy. I thought the sandwich was a little short on thousand island dressing--I took the sandwich apart looking for it and found some traces. Fortunately, someone else had requested an extra side of thousand island dressing which I was able to spread on myself to improve the taste dramatically. I'm thinking that our order got somewhat delayed because the one person in our party that did not order a Reuben ordered a well-done steak, and they probably held our ten Reubens until the steak was finished--a practice that I consider somewhat unfair to the rest of us, especially since we had already requested separate checks. The service was less than stellar--starting with giving people the wrong drinks, and when the Reubens were finally ready, he brought each orders out and asked us to identify which one we had ordered, and then after he had collected our checks and walked to the cash register, returned to ask him who had given him which amount of money.

It took entirely too much time to slap together a simple sandwich. The bread tasted too hard. When cut diagonal, the meat ended up on one half, and sauerkraut on the other half--the sandwich had no flavor. I understand that the pizza here is super--perhaps they should drop their Reuben from the menu.

This has the nicest decor of anyplace so far, seemed quite clean. Disco music was playing from the speakers a bit too loud, but I kind of liked it: I guess I'm getting old. Presentation was very nice, with a real china plate, lettuce and pickle garnish, and cottage cheese in a little china crock (I'll probably get the salad in the future, but the seasoned chips were tasty too). The sandwich itself looked nice, with awesomely toasted marble rye and sauerkraut spilling out. But it was, well, bland. The meat didn't have much flavor. All that sauerkraut and I couldn't taste it. Cheese was unnoticeable. Bread was merely crunchy, with no rye flavor. And there wasn't much dressing either. It didn't taste bad, but it just didn't have any flavor to speak of. I think we flummoxed the waiter, coming in as we did, and he just seemed to get more and more flustered as time passed. He tried to do a good job, and was friendly, but his anxiety got the better of him and he had a hard time remembering what he was doing. I guess he thought we were professional reviewers or something.

The one thing that stood out was that our server was really new at this. Of course, we are weirder than your average lunch crowd, so that didn't help him out, either. The sandwich was adequate. Nothing spectacular, nothing awful. Personally, I would have liked more Thousand Island dressing on the sandwich, as it was a bit sparse. The bread had a nice crunch to it, which was definitely better than the sogginess of some previous Reubens. The presentation and atmosphere were the high points, and I would certainly eat lunch there again. Especially for the seasoned potato chips.

This was my first Reuben experience and I found myself enjoying the company more than the Reuben. The corned beef tasted like lunchmeat from a cheap deli. The fries were good but our waiter seemed confused and the slow service time did not help. Overall, it was not the best Reuben but not the worst.

I liked the crunchiness, but the corned beef and sauerkraut were both somewhat bland. The fries were good. The service was slow.

Being that most places don't expect a dozen people to order Reuben sandwiches at the same time, I tend to cut the staff a break concerning speed. But over a half hour wait is a bit much. Once the Reuben was received, I was a bit disappointed. It was the most uneven sandwich I had ever had. All the sauce was on the upper left corner, the meat--lower right, and the cheese just across the top. If I could bite all four sides at once it may have been quite good. P.S., the 70s disco music that they were playing sucks.
