"What on earth would make a man decide to do that kind of thing? Windin' up 21,140 pounds of string? What was he trying to prove? Who was he trying to impress? Why did he build it? How did he do it? It's anybody's guess. Where did he get the twine? What was goin' through his mind? Did it just seem like a good idea at the time?" -- 'Weird Al' Yankovic
We made a last-minute diversion in our trajectory to stop and pay homage to the World's Largest Ball of Twine Made By One Man--the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota!
This was my third or fourth visit to the twine ball. My first visit was on June 12, 1990, when it was still on Francis Johnson's farm outside of town. You can see the photos from that visit here.
The museum has never been open when we've visited, which has been disappointing. We've never had the chance to go inside and get a souvenir.
