We ate breakfast at the Comfort Inn in Limon, Colorado, and then headed east on I-70 across eastern Colorado.

We entered Kansas, where they had a very nice and clean welcome center, with free coffee!

Van Gogh painting, Goodland, KS

We stopped briefly in Goodland, Kansas, to get a picture of the world's largest painting on an easel. Goodland was one of the spots selected to display giant Van Gogh paintings due to its huge sunflower crop. You can see how small our car is behind the enormous sunflower painting.

We stopped in Hays for lunch at the Village Inn. We got to Topeka just at 5 p.m., and weren't able to get to the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in time. We saw the park rangers locking up the former school building. We drove by the house that Chris used to live in--3581 Clare Ave SW.

Then we took US24 from Topeka to Lawrence, where we checked in at the Lawrence KOA. We were given the "Wicked Witch" cabin--the campground had a definite "Wizard of Oz" theme. Chris, sweetly, stated that the campground must have known that Katherine was coming. She checked the urge to put a hex on him and his little dog.

Since the temperature was over 100, we went swimming at the campground pool for a while before dinner. We went to Don's Steak House for dinner. Chris had the salmon, Katherine had a prime rib, Steven had fettucine alfredo, and Andy had macaroni. Chris made a little figurine out of the cheese on his salad, which consisted of iceberg lettuce, a wad of shredded cheddar cheese, and salad dressing.
