Reuben Details
Sandwich Name: Corned beef or Turkey Rueben [sic] ($6.75)
Menu Description: We cook our corned beef overnight in a slow cook oven for the most tender corned beef you've ever tasted. We pull our corned beef, pile it high on grilled rye and top it with 1000 island dressing, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. Or try our tender fresh sliced turkey. Either way you'll love it!
Included Side Items: Choice of mashed potatoes and gravy, French or waffle fries, cottage cheese, fried mushrooms, onion rings, cole slaw, fresh fruit, cup of soup, side salad, vegetable of the day, Texas toast, apple sauce, wild rice medley, or baked potato (after 5 p.m.). Also included two pickle slices.
Presentation: The grilled sandwich was cut somewhat diagonally, presented next to onion rings and pickle slices on a plate. The bread was thin rye, and Swiss cheese was placed directly against the bottom slice. This was followed by sauerkraut and thousand island dressing, covered with corned beef and another slice of Swiss cheese.
Delivery Time: 14 minutes

Nobody was in the dining room when we entered, and the place was already smoky. Although you couldn't see the bar on the other side of the wall, it was evident that it was there. The place was empty when we arrived at 11:30, but a few people came in later. The corned beef was very original--it was pulled and stringy instead of sliced. The Thousand Island was on the light side, but the sauerkraut and meat blended well. The bread they used was very thin, but it didn't get soggy. The onion rings were superbly delicious--they tasted great and weren't at all greasy. I liked the sandwich and would gladly eat here again.

This is a bar-type establishment, with three separate seating areas. We sat in the non-smoking section, where decorative plastic greenery is in tasteful abundance, and a little oil candle sits on each table. A TV sits in a corner, but (thankfully) it wasn't on. Judging by the scent in the air at 11:30, before many other patrons had arrived, and by the increasing smell of smoke after noon, the etched-glass barrier between this area and the smoking section, though attractive, isn't particularly effective. We sat in a booth (which was just a tad uncomfortably narrow for two adult males to sit side-by-side) next to the large east window, which overlooked the third seating area, an outdoor patio. The patio looked like it had been let go for the winter, with stacked resin chairs and fallen or partially fallen baskets of plastic flowers. The waitress was very pleasant and friendly, and even _asked_ if I wanted lemon with my water. The menu provided a huge variety of sides to choose from with the sandwich, and I opted for the onion rings. I'm glad I did, as they were large, generously provided, and delicious. The batter had a slight beer flavor, and was coated slightly with cornmeal, which is, I think, why they weren't at all greasy. The sandwich and onion rings came out on real china, with a lettuce-leaf garnish, and we had metal flatware, though we still had paper napkins and plastic drink glasses. Two large pickle slices were provided as well: Vlassic, I think, good and garlicky instead of dill-flavored. The first thing you notice about this sandwich is that the beef is shredded and blended with the kraut. This makes for a pretty distinctive texture, which is interesting, and the beef is tender of course as a result. I didn't notice that the actual _flavor_ of the beef was exceptional though: it was okay, but I've had better. The flavors overall were well balanced, but it would have been nice if they'd been a bit more intense. It wasn't really bland, but just not very strong either. The bread was surprising--sliced fairly thin, but still toasted and not at all soggy, and with good flavor. The sandwich overall seemed a bit small to me, but between it, the onion rings, and the pickles, I had plenty to eat. A final nice touch was the tip chart on the receipt, probably a good idea at a bar, where customers might be mathematically challenged when paying up. Overall a good experience. I think I'd like to go again some day when the weather is nice and enjoy a Reuben and onion rings on the patio, as I can't think of anywhere else I can do that.

The corned beef was excellent. Even though the sandwich didn't have quite enough thousand island, the corned beef made it the best Reuben I've had so far in 2004. The onion rings were also some of the best on the planet. I'd go back to Mister Robert's and just eat a big plate of their corned beef and onion rings. Although the sandwich was a bit small and there wasn't quite enough thousand island, it was still worth the trip. I'll certainly go back.

Yummyrific is the best way to describe this Reuben. The corned beef was the best I have ever had. The bread was thin but since cheese was placed on both ends it did not get soggy. The only drawback to this sandwich is that you will want more, but as good as it was I think you will be left with that feeling regardless of its size. For the choice of side I took the onion rings. They were great, some sort of beer and corn meal batter, very good. Service was good as was the atmostphere. This is the place to go for a Reuben in Avon.
