Dooley O'Toole's

From the exterior, I wouldn't have thought this was a place to eat--the exterior looks more like an attorney's office or something. As for their Reuben, I thought the corned beef had a good flavor to it. The Swiss cheese was noticeable but not overpowering. The sauerkraut was heavy and I liked the flavor. I liked having the thousand island dressing on the side. While I ordered and received my side salad, I also accidentally received an order of fries delivered on my plate at no charge. I have never had the opportunity to choose from so many different side items before. The waiter handled our separate checks without complaint, but took a little long to bring them out. They also moved us to a larger table as more of our group arrived. The staff was very accommodating. The dining room is nicely appointed and comfortable.

This is a nice-looking place: I especially liked the stained-glass hanging lamps. The waitstaff was kind enough to relocate us to a new table after it became clear that we had underestimated the number of attendees. On the other hand, they never offered to refill my drink. They also weren't very careful about the crayons they gave Morgan for her activity sheet, as they only provided her with two randomly-selected shades of brown (on the plus side, they _did_ provide said activity sheet, and it did amuse her for a while). Plastic cups, paper napkins, metal flatware, china plates. I had a side of potato salad, which was decent. My pickle was smallish, but had good garlicky flavor. Dressing was served on the side. The bread had a pretty marbled swirl, but was a bit soggy. The kraut was an unusual brown color, but didn't taste bad. The sandwich was of good size and filled me up nicely, but I found room for one of the Andes chocolate mints from the bowl by the door. The tip calculator on the receipt was also a nice touch.

This was a good sandwich, delivered in pretty good time. The Reuben had a bit of a "sweet" taste, which after much dissection, I attribute to sautéing the sauerkraut. It was good, I ate the whole thing and was very satisfied. I had the plain fries from the many selections of sides. They were plain, but fresh and hot. I only had one napkin, but the bread was firm enough that I got by with that. The service was very good for a pretty large crowd and the atmosphere was very nice, quiet, well decorated and lots of room. A good place to hang out. Great treats as you walk out the door (Andes mints, etc). I'll come back.

This sandwich seemed to be as average as it gets. There is really nothing bad I can say about it, but I really can't think of anything good about it either. The meat was dry but not that dry, the bread was decent and nicely toasted, but it became a bit soggy over the course of lunch. The sauce wasn't memorable (really, I can't remember it at all right now). I wish the sandwich was significantly better or worse so I could make this review more creative. Even I am getting bored writing about this average sandwich. I did enjoy the atmosphere, it had a cozy tavern feel and a fire would have been perfect. Garrison Keillor always mentions how the kids in Lake Wobegon are "above average", I sure wish this sandwich was.

Dooley's has been in operation in Carmel for at least 15 years. It has a mellow lived in look. It has become more Irish over the years. Service was efficient and quick enough. The sandwich was OK. The meat was dry by itself, but in the sandwich this wasn't noticeable. The kraut was brown. In my experience, brown kraut has been exposed to the air for too long, taste was fine. When I got to the 2nd half of the sandwich, the bottom slice of bread had gotten soggy with kraut juice, a negative in my mind. Lastly the side selection is enormous, I chose cole slaw, it tasted like the kind you get at church dinners that comes in 5 gallon tubs. Overall OK, but there are better choices on the north side.

A nice atmosphere is as important to me as a good tasting Reuben, and this place had both. It was a relaxing place with no smoke or loud music, and the service was good too. The main course had all the ingredients of a good Reuben, including bread that wasn't soggy, flavorful dressing on the side, as well as solid portions of cheese, sauerkraut, and corned beef.

Tasty Reuben on marbled bread! Reubens on marbled bread are a favorite of mine in terms of taste and presentation. I chose fresh fruit as my side, which was presented very nicely on the plate and provided a healthier choice compared with traditional sides.
