The dining room at Victor's is divided into three sections and we were seated at a table near the beverage station. This beverage station is exposed to the dining room, but is for employees only. They have a salad bar right near the entrance, and the salad bar can be added to any meal for a reasonable price. The restaurant was in good shape and had nice decor. The tables were clean and sturdy and the whole environment was quite cheery with bright colors and nice curtains and wall hangings. The menus were very large and clean, they looked nice and had a lot of selections available. The staff of the restaurant was also very friendly.

I had ordered the Reuben, and it came with nothing on the side--no pickle or anything interesting. I could have ordered it with chips or other side items, but usually a Reuben will come with a little something extra. The first thing I noticed was that the bread looked good. It was nicely grilled and had a good rye flavor with caraway seeds.

The sauerkraut was nicely tangy but not drippy, and the Swiss cheese tasted good. I didn't really notice the 1000 Island dressing, it looked like they had spread a little of it on one of the pieces of bread and then entombed it with the cheese.

My son, Steven, and I agreed that the big disappointment in this sandwich was the corned beef--it was a rather bland lunch meat style that you might get from any grocery. It was slippery and the slices slid around easily and unevenly. The corned beef was the least tasty part of the sandwich. In fact, the sandwich had everything in place to be a good Reuben except for the meat. If they could fix that, then it would be a reasonable sandwich. I mean, the price was excellent! A Reuben for under $6! But with better meat on it I would have gladly paid $8 or $9 for something delicious.

Dining at Victor27;s Gyros and Pancake House, Muncie, IN

Katherine ordered the gyros with feta, and she said that the gyros sandwich was very good. She complimented the thinly sliced onions that worked very nicely—as opposed to other gyros that she had tried where the onion were big chunks. She advises that you skip the fries—they were very bland. However, the gyros was excellent and the slaw that she ordered with it was really good and creamy.

Overall, I think that Victor's is a good restaurant, but I really cannot recommend their Reuben. They don't mention a Reuben in their name, do they? Perhaps the best advice is that if you go to Victor's to order the menu items that are featured in the name of their restaurant: the gyros or the pancakes.
