Top of the World Restaurant and Lounge - Stratosphere Las Vegas

The Top of the World restaurant, is located at the Stratosphere, the tallest hotel in Las Vegas. The restaurant is 880 feet up, overlooking all of Las Vegas downtown and the Strip, and the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background. Sunny day, with some haze. They brought bread to tide us over, along with butter sticks shaped like little Stratosphere towers. The restaurant is normally $50 for dinner, and we got about $50 worth of ambiance with our meals, making it a great value. In any case, it was a wonderful contrast to more terrestrial Vegas eateries, which often have tourists walking by and the ring of slot machines in the background. The tower spun as we ate, and we could see the movement of the tower's shadow like a big sundial on the buildings below. We started out facing north toward downtown, then east (toward the mountains) then south (toward the Strip). Classy marketing: the dessert tray slowly rotates its way into view right when we were wrapping up our meal. The Reuben itself was good, but the bread was a bit soggy from an overdose of Thousand Island. Overall it was a great experience featuring luxury, peace and quiet, and a good Reuben.
