The Middlesex Diner has one big open dining room, divided into rows of booths, and a diner counter at the back of the restaurant. It's the type of place where you pay on the way out.

We were seated quickly and ordered our food. The Reuben came after only about 7 minutes, and my wife's food followed about 5 minutes later.

Interior of Middlesex Diner, Carlisle, PA

The first thing I noticed when biting into the sandwich was the sauerkraut. It was super tangy and mixed with a little bit of Thousand Island that wasn't really noticeable apart from the sauerkraut.

The corned beef was a pretty thin layer, at most two slices of meat that quickly broke apart into little fragments when disturbed by the process of handling the sandwich. One bit of the corned beef was particularly fatty and stringy, but most of it was okay.

The Swiss cheese was good and the rye bread was grilled nicely.

This Reuben sandwich should have been more accurately termed a "Sauerkraut Lovers" sandwich that had just a little hint of corned beef in it to add a little flavor. If you ever have the desire to have sauerkraut on rye with a little cheese and beef flavor, then this would be the sandwich for you. I don't recommend it.

The Middlesex Diner has an enormous menu of items that you can try--please explore it all that you like. My wife had the Greek salad with chicken on it and thought it was delicious. Just avoid the Reuben!
