When you walk into Subies, you order at a counter, and then you go and sit at a table. The worker at the counter was super friendly. When she said the Reuben would be out in a couple of minutes, I didn't believe her. But wow, was I surprised. I walked to a table at 11:03, and at 11:07, the sandwich was brought out, grilled and warm and everything. I was a little shocked. I am not sure I ever had a Reuben delivered within 4 minutes of ordering before.
The rye bread was lightly toasted, but it was just the right blend of crunchy and soft. The bread tasted just a little sweet, which I really liked. The corned beef was nice and lean, as advertised, and was delicious. The sauerkraut and dressing was nicely balanced. The sauerkraut still had a little crunch to it and was tangy—but when mixed with the dressing it blended superbly. I was able to get a little flavor of Swiss cheese once in a while, too.
What really was remarkable about the sandwich is how overall, the flavors all blended so well that there was no one ingredient that overshadowed the others, so each flavor was able to play a supporting role. The sandwich was a good size, but certainly not oversized.
The Reuben came with a good tasting dill pickle spear. They offer French fries or chips with the sandwich, and I got a bag of the baked Lay's chips with mine. They also offer potato salad or cole slaw, and I had the potato salad. It was nice that these add-ons were all included in the price of the Reuben. The tiny cup of potato salad had a good taste to it, and hit the spot.
The staff was very friendly. The dining room was elegant for a little deli. I really loved this Reuben, and it was so good that I will definitely try to get back here on my next trip through Texarkana. I definitely recommend the Reuben here and I'm sure their other offerings are also delicious.
