Crowing About Sculptures

We eagerly shook the dust of the Depot (anything-but) Express from our shoes and set our sights on Minneapolis. We took MN-27 to Osakis, where we got onto county road 51 (both former alignments of US-52). As we passed through West Union, we saw an unusual composition of cows and pigs.



At West Union, we got back onto I-94 to Sauk Centre. From Sauk Centre, we headed south on US-71 to Belgrade to see the World’s Largest Crow, which overlooks the highway south of town.





From Belgrade, we took MN-55 for the two-hour drive to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, which adjoins the Walker Art Center. Where the last sculpture garden we’d walked through had featured the unspoken theme, “Women Without Clothing,” the theme here had been “Is It Art, or Is It the Trash Can?”







Katherine freely admits that she (bourgeois that she is) prefers art that actually resembles something, so much of the modern art in the park left her with raised eyebrows and a quizzical expression. The Sculpture Garden appeared to be a popular place, however, and we saw a group filming some sort of odd film involving a girl in fancy dress wearing a winter cap and a man in ski wear.
