A Lighthouse, Some Flowers, and Really Big Wheat
Regina, SK to Estevan, SK
Jul 1, 2008
We bid a wistful adieu to Regina, the Holiday Inn Express, and the lovely hot breakfast that we had enjoyed each morning over the weekend. Today would be the longest drive of the trip, and thus fairly uneventful.
From Regina, we took Provincial Highway 6 south to catch Highway 39. Our route took us through Weyburn, SK, which boasts a water tower that looks like a lighthouse…
…and giant metal stalks of wheat.
Weyburn also celebrates its prairie heritage with giant metal representations of a prairie lily.
Estevan, an hour past Weyburn, continues the theme with more giant prairie lilies, as well as some other flowers and a grasshopper.
Estevan, the self-proclaimed “Energy City,” also boasts Lignite Louis, who is a harbinger of the town’s mining industry.
